Theda Jean Jones Brinker, 96, departed from this life to meet her Lord on 3/19/21 at Normandie
Ridge, York, PA. Although born and raised in Philadelphia, and always a Philly girl at heart, she
spent the bulk of her life in central PA as a supportive minister's wife in the United Methodist
Church, with earlier pastorates in the Church of the Nazarene. The daughter of the late Joseph
Jones and Helen Hummel Jones Royer, Theda was preceded in death by her husband of 68
years, Rev. Luke Brinker; her sister, Helen Jones Risher; and two grandchildren.
The first college grad in her family, Theda graduated cum laude from Eastern Nazarene College,
Quincy, MA. She was an enthusiastic teacher, whether teaching in the public schools, Sunday
schools, or as a docent at the Slifer House Museum, Lewisburg, PA. Theda was a gospel style
pianist, a reliable alto in church choirs, and a member of Forty Fingers, a quartet of young
pianists who played for the troops in the 1930s. As a deltiologist, she collected antique
postcards and helped to compile The Scherer-Silman Bamforth Postcard Catalog.
Theda was an accomplished genealogist, compiling many volumes of information on her and
her husband’s families. She was immensely proud of her roots in Northern Ireland and of her
descendents: her children, Susan (Joe) Piescik of Farmington, CT. and Rev. David (Chris)
Brinker of York, PA.; four grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren spread across CT, NY,
WV, and OR.
