William Griffith Obituary

William (Bill) V. Griffith, age 85, of Shrewsbury PA, passed away at 7:07 AM on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at York Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late beloved Kathryn (Simpson) Griffith, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.

Born on August 22, 1938, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Milton V. and Mary T.A. (Manno) Griffith. Mr. Griffith is survived by two sons, William H. Griffith and his wife Lisa of Dover PA, and Todd E. Griffith of Shrewsbury PA. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Davin, Delaney, and Liam, as well as two sisters, Verna Lee Studz of Hanover, PA, and Lois Garvin of Joppa, MD. He is also survived by a niece, Tammie Lazon, and nephews Dean Garvin and Jeff Simpson. Additionally, he is fondly remembered by his long-time companion, Amelia Dell of Glen Rock, with whom he shared many cherished moments.

Bill enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served from 1955 to 1961. He had the honor of serving on the historic ships USS Salem and Canberra 1 (CA-70).

Employed by the Baltimore County School Board for 30 dedicated years, Bill retired in 1993. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated mastery as a woodsmith, building, repairing, and refurbishing cabinets, desks, and tables for offices and classrooms. Outside of work he was a versatile handyman, Bill excelled in various areas, including plumbing, auto and small engine repairs, and construction. He found great joy in home repairs and renovations, always staying busy with projects.

An avid fisherman since childhood, Bill held the Maryland State record in 1984 for an 8.5 lb. largemouth bass caught at Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore.

In his later years, Bill enjoyed traveling, casino outings, various types of artwork, and watching the Orioles, in which he was an avid fan of. Known for his wicked sense of humor, charismatic personality, and engaging storytelling, Bill will be deeply missed.
