Obituary

William H. Merritt, Jr., age 76, of Warrington Township, Dover, passed
away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. He was the
husband of Helen M. (Myers) Oerman.

Born September 12, 1944 in Cranesville, Erie County, the son of the late
William H. and Ruth (Leonard) Merritt, he served in the US Marine Corps
during the Viet Nam War. After his military discharge he worked for
Bessemer Railroad, and then for Precision Custom Components. He then
retired from Metso Mining.

He liked hunting, football, riding horses, and going to the mountains where
he was part owner of a family-owned cabin in Forest County. He also
enjoyed his dogs through the years, his present dog, Mazy, and Code Red.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Merritt is survived by a son, Kevin Merritt, of
Butler; two daughters, Sheri Borings, of Herford, North Carolina, and Penni
Garansi, of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Melissa Lawrence, of Strinestown; a
stepson, Eric Oerman, of Lewisberry; six grandchildren; six step
grandchildren; and two sisters, Janet Gutterry, of Parker, and Lois Herbert,
of Ellwood City. He was also preceded in death by a step grand daughter,
Kelly Oerman; and a sister, Ruth Konor.

Military honors will be presented at 11:30 AM Friday, October 23, 2020 at
Emanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry. A memorial service will be held
immediately afterward at Mt Airy United Methodist Church, 2020 Pinetown
Road, Wellsville, with Chaplain Kevin Cross, of Heartland Hospice,
officiating. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 South Main Street,
Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
